I was sitting at the dinner table eating breakfast and staring out the window like usual when all of a sudden a herd of cows came trotting past the apartment gates followed by two little boys no taller than 3 feet. And the metaphor hit. It really doesn't matter how huge your giants are, or how challenging the obstacles in your life may be... with help from God Almighty you can overcome them. That cattle, even with the horns and all, was being driven by two determined little boys. What an encouragement.

Trujillo RoadTrip 2012

Ok, ok... so we rented a truck for 6 people, we were on the road for almost 11 hours (each way) rotating seats every now and then, and we had the time of our lives out on the beach while enjoying the view and landscape of an amazing house. This Semana Santa vacation has been full of firsts for many of us and I feel so blessed to have been able to spend it with such awesome people. Here's just a glimpse of what it was like along the way... a 6 day road trip.

Semana Santa Sawdust

The week before Easter Sunday is known as Semana Santa, or Holly Week. One of the many things that happen throughout the city (or for those who are still hanging around) is the making of the sawdust carpets and the processional that follows in which the carpets are purposefully destroyed. The girls and I got up extra early today to go check out what the carpet making was all about, we ran into some beautiful artwork... definitely worth the early morning call. This is what we saw as we walked down a main street in El Centro.

All of the colors were beautifully placed and the designs were so precise. Just watching people put their rugs together was exciting for me to see, hopefully one day I can do one too! And if not, at least bring the idea into the classroom, but put a spin on it somehow. Unfortunately we didn't stay to watch the processional, we were pretty exhausted still from the late night and full day of travel back from Trujillo, but maybe next year I'll get to experience the full effect of the Good Friday celebrations.
